Speech: German, English

Even if the origins of the Silk Road go back more than 2,000 years, it is nevertheless still in the news. In the context of the new Silk Road project, China wants to invest more than a trillion US dollars in the railway and road network and in the sea route to Europe, enabling Europe and China to grow together. The 19th National Congress of the Communist Party of China in October 2017 focused, among other things, on China’s long-term prospects: world innovation leadership by 2035. By 2049 China intends to have caught up with the EU and the USA in terms of economic prosperity. The new Silk Road initiative is an important milestone in its ambitious plans. On the occasion of Transport Logistic 2019, we want to discuss the various aspects of the new Silk Road. The objective of the discussion is in particular the opportunities and risks of Europe and the infrastructure, organisational, economic and political measures that need to be put in place to optimise the new Silk Road.
