Lecture Description

In a context of high energy prices, driver shortages and an urgent need to reduce CO2 emissions, rationalising logistics operations by means of high-capacity transport is more interesting than ever. Yet, there are remaining challenges which prevent the use of high-capacity transport in Europe. Faced with these challenges, which are legal and operational, how can stakeholders further test and support local and cross-border road freight transport operations of high-capacity transport, such as eco-combi’s and super eco-combi’s (SEC) which improve the efficiency of the logistics chain, as they consume less fuel, reduce costs and produce less emissions per cargo unit. Since eco-combi’s are built with standard combinations, it is also extremely suitable for intermodal transport. CLECAT is gathering a roundtable of experts to debate how the uptake of high-capacity transport in Europe can support sustainable and efficient transport logistics.

Speakers will also have the possibility to discuss the interoperability of high-capacity transport in the context of multimodal transport operations. How can eco-combi’s and super eco-combi’s be deployed on European freight corridors?  What will be needed from the upcoming review of the Weight and Dimensions Directive which should allow for more flexibilities and keep the door for more innovation and smart technologies open? The session will also debate the possible transition of conventional diesel-powered EMS vehicles to zero emission technologies, with the challenges and opportunities for innovation and the need to accelerate the deployment of adequate infrastructure.
