How to measure scope 3 for CSRD in logistics?

As a result of the Paris Climate Agreement in 2015 the EU has been imposed with the task of getting the right legislation in place to ensure the climate goals are going to be met. By making organizations liable for their carbon footprint and social impact the EU is trying to make the economy environmentally sustainable and socially responsible.

A growing number of multinationals and other companies realize carbon accounting in logistics is rapidly becoming the new standard and in the near future will be mandatory.

Already in 2025 over 50,000 companies in Europe must start reporting on their carbon emissions, including ‘Scope 3’ outsourced ‘transport of goods’.

About the organizers

The Netherlands is one of the forerunners in sustainability. The Dutch government has endeavored to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 55 percent below 1990 levels by 2030, and are working towards carbon neutrality by 2050, along with the rest of the EU.

This session is enabled by Holland International Distribution Council in cooperation with Topsector Logistics. Holland International Distribution Council is a private non-profit organization providing free matchmaking services for logistics partnerships in Europe. In the Top Sector Logistics programme, companies, research institutes and government work together on innovations for competitive and emission-free logistics. This takes place through research (by TKI Dinalog), the development of knowledge and tools and scaling-up.

BigMile is a global software platform that provides logistics service providers and shippers insights on their transport-related carbon emissions. The outcome can be allocated per customer, per logistics service provider, per shipment or per region and used to report to all stakeholders, including the accountant.
